Portugal Defender Paulo Ferreira Expected To Retire From International Football This Week

Portugal defender Paulo Ferreira is expected to announce he is retiring from international football after 62 caps for the Seleccao. 31-year-old Ferreira will become the third player to retire from the Portugal national team since the side's Round of 16 exit at the 2010 World Cup, behind Deco and Simao Sabrosa.
According to desport.publico.pt, Seleccao coach Carloz Queiroz was contated several weeks ago by the Chelsea defender to advise of the decision, but the former Manchester United assistant coach attempted to dissuade him.
Ferreira has sent a letter advising of his decision to Portuguese Football Federation President Gilberto Madail, with the deicision effective immediately.
The defender will not be available for Portugal's upcoming Euro 2012 Qualifiers against Cyprus in Guimaraes and Norway in Oslo.
