The Portuguese anti-doping committee has suspended national team coach Carlos Queiroz for six months after finding him guilty of insulting members of the country's anti-doping authority. The incident occurred in May at a pre-World Cup training camp when Queiroz was reportedly angered at the constant testing of his players and allegedly hurled abuse at the anti-doping committee.
The Portuguese Football Federation decided to suspend him for a month but since the FA had deemed him not guilty of disturbing an anti-doping control, the committee decided to take matters into its own hands.
The six-month suspension will see Queiroz miss next month's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Cyprus and Norway and he will also be banned from the touchline for matches against Denmark and Iceland.
However, the former Real Madrid coach can still appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Meanwhile, Portugal have called up Ricardo Quaresma as replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo for their upcoming European Championship qualifying matches next month.
Ronaldo will be out of action for three weeks after picking up an injury during Real Madrid's 0-0 draw with Real Mallorca in the Spanish Primera Division on Sunday night.
