CINISELLO BALSAMO - Inter captain Javier Zanetti is the winner of this year's Gaetano Scirea career achievement award. "I am very honoured to receive this award," said Zanetti, who is the first foreign player to win it. "It is an enormous pleasure, also because it is dedicated to a football great."
Zanetti has already put the UEFA Super Cup defeat behind him and is now looking forward to the new Serie A season. "Our opponents did better than us yesterday and deserved to win, so we're not looking for excuses," he said. "Now we have to think about Bologna. We want to start the championship well and Bologna are a team who deserve respect. We're not at one hundred percent but we will do our best to win.
"Milito out of form? It's not a matter of individuals; he has done a lot for this team, just like the others. Will this defeat affect the coach's choices? We shouldn't put pressure on the coach. He has his ideas and he is working on them with us."
Will Inter bring in any new players before the summer transfer window shuts? "The squad is competitive, as it has already shown many times, but if someone new comes, he will be welcome, as always," replied Zanetti. "Ibrahimovic to Milan? We respect his choice, but we're thinking about ourselves."
Zanetti admitted that he wasn't expecting a recall to his national team at the age of 37, "because Argentine football has many champions. But I'm still there and I am enjoying this moment."
