Nani - Fergie gave me a chance

Nani has hailed the influence of Sir Alex Ferguson after the Manchester United manager helped him through testing times at Old Trafford last season. The Portugal international suffered a torrid opening half of the season which was blighted by injury and indifferent performances.
After recovering from a dislocated shoulder in pre-season the 23-year-old hit out at Ferguson, criticising his man-management skills.
The outburst did little to endear him to the United faithful and it appeared likely that the former Sporting Lisbon midfielder would exit Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
However, Ferguson decided to give Nani another chance to succeed and the Portuguese is thankful for the faith the Govan-born manager showed in him.
"I had bad moments," he told The Times. "But the manager [Ferguson] has been very important for me."
"I was injured, I was playing badly sometimes. I had problems inside my head.
"But at that time he was good for me because he said 'You just have to work, and at the right time I will give you opportunities. When you get your opportunity you'll take it'."
Nani turned his season around with a series of good performances, most notably a man-of-the-match display as United eased past Arsenal 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium, and is targeting the new campaign to add to his impressive trophy haul.
"The target at this club is always the same - to win every trophy we can," he added.
"It's a special mentality here. It's obligatory to learn how to win. You can't help it.
"At my home I have a room in it with my medals and trophies in it. In three years I have won a lot. But I can win more."
