Dejan Stankovic is confident that Inter make some quick additions to their collection of silverware, with two trophies up for grabs before the start of the Serie A season.
Speaking to Sky Sport 24 after Thursday morning's training session, the 31-year-old Serbian midfielder said: "Each day we're learning something new with Benitez. He transmits to us his new ideas and we are ready. We have a lot of experience now and in a short space of time we have understood what he wants.
"Mourinho? He left a positive mark, winning three trophies in a year. He wrote the history of Inter, but it's history, it's in the past now. We can only thank Mourinho, who was great, but now we have other objectives. We're still hungry and we're not stopping. The good part starts now: there's a trophy to win the day after tomorrow and then seven or eight days later there's the European Super Cup, and then we can win the third at the end of this year, so it's time to close the circle."
Stankovic knows that repeating Barcelona's haul of six titles in one year won't be easy. "Me and Julio Cesar said (last December) that winning six trophies was a real feat, but Inter can do it. It would be stupid to give up now and let this chance slip by. We have to continue to win; for ourselves, for the president and all the fans."
At the Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday Stankovic will line up against his former team-mate Adriano, who is now a Roma player. "I wasn't expecting Adriano to return to the Italian championship because I was watching him in Brazil and I thought he would stay there, but I'm still very happy for him," said Dejan, who has taken part in more Italian Super Cup clashes (seven) than any other player. "It means that he's ready for new challenges and that he is back on the right track. I wish him the best of luck."
From one Brazilian to another, Stankovic gave his opinion of Inter starlet Coutinho: "He's still young, but he has already shown that he has great talent and great humility. He listens and he wants to learn. He has done very, very well in the matches we have played up to now. He's got quality, spirit of sacrifice and the desire to learn. His future is assured."
During his first year under Mourinho, Stankovic said 'I started in last position and I have arrived in pole position'. What is his position now? "It's the group that counts," said the Serbian. "We are all friends, I am ready and waiting for when I'm needed. I am a soldier of Inter so it doesn't matter to me whether I'm a starter or not. I will always available to the boss, whether I'm on the pitch or the bench."
And will Stankovic be on the pitch from minute one against Roma? "I don't know yet," he replied.
